Elton John and his longtime partner David Furnish first met in 1993 and they are inseparable since then. Furnish, 55, is a filmmaker, producer, and director.
Recalling the past, the 71-year-old legendary singer said to Parade back in 2010:
"I went back to my house in Windsor for a while. I wanted meet new people so I rang up a friend in London and said, 'Could you please rattle some new people together for dinner here Saturday?" I was attracted to David immediately," Elton reflected. "He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner."
After 12 years of relationship, John proposed his then-boyfriend in May 2005 at a dinner party in Old Windsor. Later in December of the same year, the couple become a civil partners becoming the first pair in the UK to enter into civil partnership.
John and his husband together welcomed their first son, Zachary Jackson Levon in December 2010 via surrogacy. Two years later, they welcomed their second son, Elijah Joseph Daniel on January 11, 2013, via the same surrogate.
The couple shares a close bond with the surrogate. Five-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter explained:
“We have a very close bond with her and were in constant touch throughout the pregnancy, getting updates, seeing scans and sharing all the little details that make those nine months so exciting. She has given us two amazing gifts and we in turn have a duty of care to her and are fiercely protective of her anonymity.”
Their relationship became even stronger after the birth of their children. He once said in an interview:
“Throughout our lives we have both loved and been loved, but the love of a parent for his or her child is different to anything else, as all parents will know. You find new depths of love, and experience pure joy.”
The couple eventually tied the knot in December 2014 after the marriage became legal in England in March 2014 in Windsor.
Early this year, John announced he is retiring from touring and he made the decision so that he can spend some more time with his sons and husband. He explained:
“Having had children and seeing how much joy they brought to us, I thought, ‘Do you know what? I want to spend more time with them. I have to spend more time with them. I’m their father, David is their father. They give us so much joy. I don’t want to miss too much.'”
John and Furnish are together for over 25 years now and their relationship is going stronger as ever which John once said:

The pair has been engaged in several charities together especially focusing on HIV and AIDS. They were also awarded the Human Rights Campaign Equality Award in 2014.

John was in a romantic relationship with several women before he came out as gay in 1988. He confirmed of being bisexual in 1976.
He came out in an interview with Rolling Stone when asked about his sexuality:
“I said, ‘I’ve been waitin’ for people to ask me this. It’s not exactly a secret. I live with my manager. I’m openly gay outside. I don’t have a girlfriend. And nobody’s ever actually out — I just thought it was common knowledge.'”
