Ousmane Dembele was born on 15th May 1997 in Vernon, France under the birth sign Taurus. Dembele is French by nationality and belongs to Mixed ethnicity (Mauritanian and Senegalese descent). He was raised by West African migrants Ousmane Sr. and Fatimata Dembele.

Dembele was interested in football from the very early age. Between the age of 12 - 13, he first played at ALM Evreux and later at Evreux FC 27.

Ousmane Dembele’s Professional Career


Ousmane Dembele started his professional career after joining the French a s sociation football club, Rennes. On 6th September 2014, he made his debut in the Championnat de France Amateur as a 78th-minute substitute for Zane Allee in 2-0 home win against Guingamp.

In November 2014, Dembele scored his first goal against Laval. Throughout his game against reserve team, he scored 13 goals in 18 games including a hat-trick in 6-1 win match against Herouville.

After his good performance in the reserve team, he was promoted to the senior team. He made his professional debut for the team in Ligue 1 on 6th September 2015 against Angers replacing Kamil Grosicki. He scored his first score in Ligue 1 in a 2-2 draw at Roazhon Park against Bordeaux.

Borussia Dortmund

After playing two seasons for Renne, he signed a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund, a German club on 12th May 2016. He made his debut with the team on 14th August 2016 in 2-0 win match against Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup. At the Volkswagen Arena while playing against VfL Wolfsburg, he scored his first goal in 5-1 win match.

On 22nd November 2016, Dembele scored his first career UEFA Championship League goal against Legia Warsaw. At the end of season 2015-16, he was awarded the Bundesliga Rookie of the Second award and was also named to the Bundesliga Team of the Season. While playing for Borussia Dortmund, he scored 10 goals appearing in 50 games.  


On 25th August 2017, Dembele signed a contract with Barcelona for $124.25 million and $47.33 million add-ons. The same month, the team made a buyout clause for $473.34 million which made him joint-send most expensive player in euros along with Paul Pogba after Neymar.


Later, he was hand over 11 number jersey which was previously owned by Neymar. He made his first goal for Barcelona on 14th March 2018 in the Champions League in 3-0 win match against Chelsea.

International Career

In August 2016, Dembele was called up for the senior France squad to face Italy and Belarus after Nabil Fekir, and Alexandre Lacazette withdrew from the national team due to the injury. On 1st September 2016, he made his debut replacing Antonie Griezmann for the final 27 minutes of 3-1 friendly victory against Italy at Stadio San Nicola.

Dembele scored his first goal for the France national team in a 3-2 friendly victory against England. He represented his country at the U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.
