Leroy Sane is the professional German footballer who plays as a winger for the Premier League club, Manchester City. He also represents the Germany national team internationally. Sane played a prominent role in making a record-breaking score in the Premier League for his team, Manchester City. He also won the PFA Young Player of the Year in the season 2017-18. Sane represented his national team, in the Germany U21 team, 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship and Euro 2016.                     

Early Life And Early Career Of Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane was born Leroy Aziz Sane on 11th January 1996 in Essen, Germany under the birth sign Capricorn. Sane holds both German and French nationality and belongs to Afro-European ethnicity.

Sane is the son of Regina Weber ( former rhythmic gymnast and 1984 Summer Olbronzes bronze medalist) and Souleymane Sane (former footballer). His parents named him in honor of his father’s head coach, Claude Le Roy. He has a brother, Kim Sane and a sister, Sidi Sane.

He never thought of becoming a footballer. He stated,

''I never wanted to be a footballer. I thought of becoming an astronaut but later it wasn’t my calling. When I was 16 or 17, I didn’t go to parties. I had only one hobby- the ball.''

When he was young, he used to play football with his brother and father.

Early Career

Leroy Sane started playing football in 2001 for SG Wattenscheid 09, the youth team. After spending years in the youth team, he shifted to Schalke 04 in 2005. Three years later, he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen and again returned to Schalke 04 in 2011.

Leroy Sane’s professional career began after he signed a three-year contract with Schalke 04 on 21st March 2014. On 20th April 2014, he made his Bundesliga (German football league) debut against VfB Stuttgart after 77 minutes in 3-1 win match replacing Max Meyer.

While playing for the club, he made 13 goals and appeared in 57 games.

Manchester City

Sane signed a five-year contract for $44.13 million with performance related add-on making the fee $55.45 million with Premier League club, Manchester City on 2nd August 2016. He made his debut with the team on 10th September 2016 in a 1-2 win in the Manchester derby.

Sane scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win against Arsenal in the Premier League. Moreover, he made his first two goals in the 2017-18 season in 5-0 win match against Liverpool at the City of Manchester Stadium on 9th September 2017.

He was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year, beating the teammates, Ederson Moraes, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling. Throughout the seasons he scored 23 goals in 86 appearances.

International Career

Leroy Sane was called up to the Germany U21 team by Horst Hrubesch, a youth coach in August 2015 for the friendly match against Denmark. He was again called up for the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan. Sane made his international debut for the German U21 against Denmark in 2-1 win match at Stadion an der Lohmuhle.

On 6th November 2015, Sane received his first senior-call up in a friendly match against France. At Euro 2016, he was selected to represent his country by Germany boss, Joacim Low. In one of the match, he replaced Bastain Schweinsteiger on 79 minutes in a 2-0 semi-final defeat to France.

Sane will make his world cup debut in 2018 in Russia.

The young Manchester City’s footballer, Leroy Sane is linked to Rihanna lookalike Candice Brooke. The couple is spotted cuddling one another, however, they have not confirmed their relationship yet.

Sane’s father was raised in France and later moved to Germany viz his service in the Frech Army. His father was also a footballer who used to play as a striker. 

Injury

In 2017, Sane stated that due to his inability to breathe through his nose, his performances had been hampered which made him frustrated. Later, he underwent corrective surgery during the season break which caused him to miss the FIFA Confederation Cup.
