Born in Jamaica, made in England Raheem Sterling's life has been roller coaster ride. A bright prospect of Liverpool he was criticised and labeled as contract rebel when he refused a new contract at Liverpool. Often the subject of controversy and scandals he then moved to Manchester City at a hefty fee of $58 million. But he failed to live up to the expectations and was criticised as the worst signing of the year. However, after the arrival of mastermind Pep Guardiola as a city manager, he caught his form and played an integral role winning the League title by record 100 points.

Though just 23, with a lot of Premier League experience, Raheem Sterling has a bright future ahead of him. He is a pacey winger with a lot of tricks and pin-point crossing ability. Already a member of England's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad he has also been included by Gareth Southgate in FIFA 2018 World Cup squad.

Early Life And Career Of Raheem Sterling

Raheem Shaquille Sterling was born on 8th December 1994 in Kingston, Jamaica to mother Mrs. Nadine Sterling and an unknown father.  When he was 5 years old he emigrated to England with his mother and attended Copland school in London.

At his early years, he joined academy of Queen Park Rangers. He was then signed by Liverpool in February 2010. For two years he played for the youth team of Liverpool and finally made his senior league debut in a match against Wigan Athletic aged just 17 years and 107 days becoming third youngest Liverpool player to make league debut. 

In 2012/13 season he made his European debut in Europa League for Liverpool in a match against Gomel in a 1-0 win. He scored his first goal for Liverpool in a match against Reading in a 1-0 league win in course of becoming the second youngest player of Liverpool to score in a competitive match for Liverpool.

The 2013/14 was a breakthrough season for Raheem Sterling. He scored 10 goals for Liverpool that season as they finished 2nd at the table just behind leaders Manchester City. He was also awarded Liverpool's young player of the year as well as was enlisted in PFA young player of the year shortlist. He further improved next season scoring 11 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and was enlisted in PFA young player of the year 2nd year in a row.  At the start of next season, he refused a new contract with Liverpool

Raheem Sterling's Professional Career At Manchester City

On July 2015 he was transferred to Manchester City signing a five-year contract for a fee of $58 million with potential add-ons. He made his debut for Manchester City in a 3-0 win against West Bromwich Albion. He scored his first goal for City in a 2-0 win against Watford. On 17th October he scored his first hattrick as City beat Bournemouth 5 -1.

On 3 November 2015, he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Sevilla in a 3-1 win. On March 2016 he had a groin injury which kept him out of the squad for 8 weeks. He scored 11 goals at the end of the season.

His second season at City was also not so successful as Pep Guardiola's men did not win any trophies however they finished third at the table. In his 47 appearances, he scored 10 goals in 2016/17 season.  Manchester City spent over $200 million to set a new defense buying players such as Mendy, Walker and Danilio and goalkeeper Ederson. Pep Guardiola's men march towards the title setting a new record by winning 18 games in a row. They finished the season with 100 points with Sterling being a crucial part of the team. He scored his career-best goal in the Premier League netting 18 goals in 33 appearances which included injury-time goals in the match against Southampton and Bournemouth

Raheem Sterling's International Career

Before making his debut for the senior team Sterling played in the various youth ranks for England which included Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 football.  He made his senior debut for England's national team on 14th November 2012 in a match against Sweden. In his second match against Denmark in a 1-0 win he was named the man of the match.  He was also included in England's squad to feature in 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. He also started in England's opening match against Italy in a 2-1 loss.

Sterling scored his first senior goal for England in a 4-0 win against Lithuania in Euro 2016 qualifiers.  He was also included in the final squad to feature in Euro 2016. However, England was knocked out by Iceland in the knockout stage. He is also included in 23 man squad of Gareth Southgate to feature in FIFA World Cup Russia 2018.

Raheem Sterling makes $227,211 per week as salary from Manchester City which is due to increase for his amazing performance in 2017/18 season.  His estimated net worth as per 2018 is $48 million. He has also a sponsorship deal with American sportswear. He is endorsed by Nike and has also appeared in various advertisements of Nike. His a s sets include a mansion worth almost $1.3 million in his birth country Jamaica.

Raheem Sterling's Personal life

Raheem Sterling is not married yet but is in a living relationship with girlfriend Paige Millan.  He has two children with Paige Millan, the first one is a daughter born in 2012 and was named Melody Rose.  His second child is named Thiago. Sterling and Millan had brief split but the pair again reconciled when Sterling moved to Manchester City.  He is caring dad and often posts images with them on his Instagram account. 

During his time at Liverpool, he was involved in a cheating scandal. It was reported that he flew to his home in Jamaica with an 18-year girl and other friends. The pair posted pictures of the private plane, cash and bikini images.  He also has a daughter from his relationship with a girl named Melissa Clarke.  He was also in media highlight when he was caught smoking a shisha pipe. 

Raheem Sterling struggled a lot during his early days. His mother raised him on her own. And his unknown dad was murdered when he was 11. They faced hardships during teen years of Raheem, however with his constant hard work he is now one of the most expensive players in England.
