Dennis Farina was born on February 29, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois. By nationality, he was an Italian-American. 

His father, Joseph was a Chicago-area doctor while the mother, Yolanda was a homemaker. He was the fourth son and youngest of seven kids of his parents. He along with his siblings spent their childhood in a North Avenue home in Old Time. 

At the time of his death, Farina was 69 years old while his height was 6 feet 1-inch or 187 cm tall. He died from a blood clot in his lung, in Scottsdale, Arizona hospital on July 22, 2013. His dead body was buried at  Mount Carmel Cemetery at Hillside, Illinois.

Initially, Dennis worked in the US Army during Vietnam Era for 3 years. Following that, he also contributed 18 years of his life to the Chicago Police Department (1967-1985), advancing in rank.

Eventually, Farina earned a small role in the 1981 film Thief after working as a police consultant for the director Michael Mann. He then acted in Code of Silence, Crime Story, Miami Vice, Midnight Run, and Get Shorty.
