Dax Shepard was born on 2nd January 1975 in Milford, Michigan to mother, Laura LaBo, who worked at General Motors, and father, Late Dave Robert Shepard, Sr. who was a car salesman.  His parents divorced when he was 3 years old and he had to live with his mother who went on to marry three more times. His mother was a successful business woman. From the age of 14, Dax began working for his mother, travelling from racetracks to racetracks for GM.

Shepard attended Walled Lake Central High School and graduated in 1993. He then joined The Groundlings School. Dax went on to attend Santa Monica Community College and West Los Angeles College, and later transferred to UCLA. He thus graduated with a magna cum laude degree in Anthropology. Shepard was never really interested in acting although he was a class clown in high school. He lived in Santa Barbara and then moved to Los Angeles in 1996. He auditioned unsuccessfully in the improv Candid Camera-type show, Punk'd.

Shepard then went on to starred in the 2004 movie Without a Paddle, which turned out to be a commercial success. He started getting roles in many movies such as Vince Downey in Employee of the Month, John Lyshitsky in Let’s Go To Prison, Noah Cooper in Smother. In 2014 he performed in This is Where I Leave You and The Judge. Additionally, Dax has appeared in various TV series like My Name is Earl, Robot Chicken, About a Boy and many more.

He is mostly noted for playing the character Crosby Braveman in NBC drama Parenthood. His net worth rocketed through this series. He is the main character as well as the director of the show. He has appeared in 90 of its episodes. He was the writer, director and stunt coordinator of the movie Brother’s Justice. He has also written, directed and edited Hit and Run.

Shepard met actress Kristen Bell on the sets of When in Rome. The two dated after a couple of years in 2007. They announced their engagement in 2010 but did not get married until the State of California legalized same-sex marriage, to show their support of equal marriage rights. Bell went on to propose to Shepard through Twitter. They then got married at the Beverly Hill’s County Clerk’s Office in 17th October 2013. The couple gave birth to two children named Lincoln Shepard and Delta Bell Shepard.

The 6 feet 2 inches tall Dax is known for his comedic side and his exceptional acting skills. He was nominated for Teen Choice Awards for his performance in Punk’d. He and his spouse were vegans until Dax started eating meat again. Dax has accepted that he took drugs in high school, but has been sober since September 2004. He has donated much of his money from racing cars to Hollenbeck Youth Center focused on providing opportunity to at-risk inner-city youth.
