The Gracie-Award winning actress Alia Shawkat is one of the big names in the Television industry. She is famous for her portrayal of Maeby Funke in the Fox/Netflix sitcom Arrested Development.
She began her acting career in the late 1990s.

Shawkat later enacted in numerous films and TV series. In 2015, she appeared in a horror-comedy film The Final Girls. Following year, she starred in Amber Tamblyn's film Paint It Black (2016). Since 2016, she is appearing in TBS sitcom Search Party.

In May 2017, she came out as bisexual.

Alia Shawkat is an American actress who was born in on 18 April 1989, in Riverside, California, USA. Her birth name is Alia Martine Shawkat. She was born to father Tony Shawkat and mother Dina Shawkat. Her maternal grandfather Paul Burke was a popular TV actor of 1960s.

She grew up with her two sibling brothers. Her father is of Iraqi Descent while her mother is of Iraqi and Norwegian descent.

From her early age, she loved painting and acting. She later pursued her career in acting. When she was 16 she continued her study in Rancho Mirage where she continued her study. She was dreamed to study International Relations at Yale University.

Alia Shawkat started her acting career in the late 19990s. She did numerous guest roles in feature films and TV series. In 2002, she made a guest appearance in ABC Family series the State of Grace

In 2003, she was cast in a regular role in a new sitcom Arrested Development. She portrayed Maeby Funke in a sitcom from 2003 to 2006. And later, it released season four and five at Netflix in 2013 and 2018.

This show became a breakthrough in her career as this series received nearly universally positive reviews and her performances were noticeably praised. Pop-Culture Brian M. Palmer explained her to be the brightest light among bright lights while Film Critics Scott Weinberg marked her as a young funny lady.

In 2009, she appeared in Whip It co-star’s music video for 'Tallboy' alongside Eva Mendes and Eric Wareheim.

Late in the month of October of the same year, she produced and written a show Stitch and Bitch which aired on HBO with Ellen Page.

She was also sung guest vocals on few tracks from the indie-punk band on album Real Ghost Caught on Tape. Later in 2012, the show revived the fourth season and she reprised her role for the fourth season. The series released on Netflix.

In 2015, she made a guest appearance on Broad City. Since 2016, she is playing Dory Sief in the dark-comedy series Search Party. She also appeared in an episode of Drunk History on Comedy Central in 2016.
In 2017, she lent her voice in an adult animated sitcom Big Mouth which released on Netflix.

Since 2018, she is voicing in an animated sitcom Summer Camp Island. In April 2018, she appeared in an experimental comedy film Duck Butter. She also wrote the screenplay of the movie alongside Arteta. Here are some of her famous feature films.

Alia Shawkat is an unmarried woman and not dating anyone as of August 2018. She came out as bisexual in May 2017. In an interview with Out Magazine, she identified herself as bisexual. She also told that she was confused about her sexuality when she was a kid.

I was a tomboy growing up, and I remember my mom asking me when I was 10, 'Are you attracted to boys or girls?' I said,'I don't know. Now, I consider myself bisexual, and I think balancing my male and female energies has been a big part of me growing as an actor. 

The interviewer also asked if her Arrested Development co-star Portia de Rossi had an impact on her identity. She replied, Portia began dating Ellen Degeneres during the third season of the show and Shawkat also met Rossi's previous girlfriends. She added that she was influenced in Los Angeles during her childhood and numerous gay artists.

Her name was linked to a few men previously. In 2003, she dated fellow actor Michael Cera while working in Arrest Development but their affair could not be long-lasting. 

She dated actor Jack Antonoff from 2009 to 2010. Then, in 2010, she was spotted with actor Michael Angarano. The duo was cozy back then and they spotted in a nightclub in Los Angeles. She later confirmed her relationship with him.

She is living with her parents and 2 brothers in Los Angeles. She is a best friend of actress Ellen Page. Apart from painting and acting, she also plays piano. She can speak several languages. She has to arrange a time for acting and for studying and then spending a proper time with her family members as well.
