He was interested in singing and songwriting ever since his childhood, so Antonoff with his other friends formed a punk rock band named "Outline."
Soon they were able to book shows in many states such as Florida and Texas and started touring. As most of them were 15 at that time and the oldest member of the band was 18-year-old, he was the one who used to drive them all to their performances and tours.
Jack Antonoff, in one of his interview, stated that his love for tours started because of his band “Outline” which lasted from 1998 to 2002.
His professional career started in 2002 when he and his friend Scott Irby-Ranniar, formed the band named Steel Train where Antonoff was a lead vocalist.
After the formation of the band, Antonoff and his friends convinced two of their friends to drop out of college and join their new group. Later, they got their deal to work with Drive-Thru Records.
