NFL is the acronym for the National Football League, a professional American Football league consisting of the amalgamation of 32 teams divided equally between National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). Formed on August 20, 1920 as the American Professional Football Conference, the name was changed to American Professional Football Association (APFA) on September 17, 1920 and then to NFL on June 24, 1922. Of the 32 teams, each team competes in the NFL playoffs which lead to the Super Bowl, which are played between the champions of the NFC and AFC.
