Former Miami Heat Star Dwyane Wade Supports His Daughter, Who Came Out As Transgender in 2019

In a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the former Miami Heat star said that one day his 12-year-old son Zion came home and asked to have a discussion about using she/her pronouns. She also talked about going by a new name than she was given at her birth.

When our child comes home with a question, when our child comes home with an issue, when our child comes home with anything, it's our job as parents to listen to that, to give them the best information we can, the best feedback we can
He added,
And that doesn't change because sexuality is now involved.
Back in December 2019, Wade said on the podcast "All The Smoke" that he had to change his mindset toward the LGBTQ community. There he said,
As we say in the hood, it's ignant," Wade said on the podcast. "I grew up with the same perspective as a lot of these people out here that's a little ignant. I had to look myself in the mirror and say, 'What if your son comes home and tells you he's gay? What are you going to do? How are you going to be? How are you going to act? It ain't about him. He knows who he is. It's about you. Who are you?'
He also said that he had watched his son "from day one-- become into who she now eventually has come into."
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, 11th February, Wade took to his Twitter introducing Zaya, who was born as a male.
Zaya was born as the second child of Wade and his first wife, Siohvaughn Funches, on 29 May 2007. Zaya and Funches married in 2002 and divorced in June 2010. Wade is married to Gabrielle Union since 30 August 2014.
