When she was 2, her parents divorced and she was raised by her mother alone. Her mother moved to Tokyo for sometimes and Vietnam for few years before moving into the US. Later, her mother migrated to Oklahoma and raised by her mother and stepfather.
Munn completed her high school education from the Putnam North City High School in Oklahoma. Then, she enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. She graduated with a journalism and minored in Japanese dramatic arts from there.
