Miroslav Josef Klose is commonly known as Miroslav Klose and is a very popular German international football player who holds Forward position. He was born on 9 June 1978 in Opole in Poland. This German professional footballer currently plays for Italian club S.S Lazio. This striker is highly praised for his goal scoring capability and his headers that often turn down opponent’s defense. This prolific forward has made to joint-all time top scoring record with legendary Gerd Muller. He has scored 68 goals in 131 matches.

Career

Klose has football by blood. His father, Josef Klose was himself a professional footballer. This Polish descendant was into football from the very early age as he grew seeing his father play for Polish club Odra Opole. Later his father moved to AJ Auxerre which is a French premier league, Ligue 1 club. His father played as winger. Barbara Jez, his mother was also a sports woman. She played for Poland women’s national handball team.

Klose’s professional career initiated with German club Kaiserslautern. He was 20 when he was unveiled by the club. Prior to that he had his youth career for SG Blaubach-Diedelkopf where he spent a year. Later he moved to FC 08 Homburg in 1998. He played 15 games for the reserves and scored 10 goals. He then played 18 games for the senior side and netted only once. Klose was unveiled by Kaiserslautern in 1999 and stayed there for 5 years till 2004. He made 50 appearances for the reserves and scored 26 goals. He made 120 appearances with 44 goals for the senior side of the club. After 5 years of successful career uprising at the club, he moved to Werder Bremen. He penned a four year contract with the club on 2 March 2004. The German Bundesliga club had offered the fee of 5 million Euros. With this club, his league debut came in 6 August 2004 in the match against Schalke 04 which they won 1-0. He was substitute for striker Nelson Valdez, Paraguayan international. His first goal for the club was on 29 August 2004 which they unfortunately lost 1-2 to Wolfsburg. Klose made 89 appearances for the club scoring 53 goals. After successful years at Werder Bremen, he moved to Bayern Munich, another Bundesliga club. He was confirmed to have been part of the Munich squad on 26 June 2007. His contract at Bayern Munich ended at the end of 2010 – 2011 season.

The German international became part of Italian club, Lazio on 9 June 2011. He had signed three-year contract with the Serie A side. His first goal came off for the club in UEFA Europa League 2012 Play-offs against Robotnicki which they won 6-0 and advanced through to next stage with 9-1 aggregate score. His first league goal came off in the match against Milan on 9 September 2011 which ended 2 - 2 draw. His significance has been realized high in the club. He is having successful run with the club and has scored 35 goals from 18 appearances so far.

Klose’s fantastic strikes was into attention of Poland national team coach who tried securing him in January 2001 but Klose presented desire of playing for Germany and declined the offer. He had said that he had German pa s sport in his possession. Klose had international debut for his national side on March 2001. The match was a World Cup qualifier against Albania. He proved his prominence in the Finals of the 2002 World Cup too. He had fiver headed goals in his name. This also helped him become player to score 5 headers in World Cup. Klose’s unprecedented striking ability has earned him numbers of honors and achievements. With Werder Bremen, he won DFB-Ligapokal in 2006. With Bayern Munich, he won Bundesliga twice in 2007-08 and 2009-10. He was also in the UEFA Champions League Runner-up side in 2009-10 season. His side won DFB-Pokal in 2008 and 2010. He was part of the squad which won DFB-Ligapokal in 2007 and he also had DFB-Supercup in his name in 2010. With his current side Lazio, he has won Coppa Italia in 2012-13.

With his national side, he made to FIFA World Cup final in 2002. His side was 3rd in FIFA World Cup 2010. They were UEFA European Football Championship Runner-up for 2008. He has numbers of individual achievements. He was German Footballer of the Year in 2006. He was Bundesliga Top Goalscorer with 25 goals in 2006. He was in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2005-06. He was the man in FIFA World Cup All-Star Team for 2002 and 2006. He was Man of the Match in his matches against Saudi Arabia and Cameroon in FIFA World Cup 2002 and similarly in the matches against Costa Rica and Sweden in 2006. He won FIFA World Cup Silver Shoe in 2002 and FIFA World Cup Golden Shoe in 2006.

Klose is linked with some trivial actions. His fairplay has been highly praised. He refused to accept penalty while he was playing for Werder Bremen on April 30, 2005. He said that it was a false decision. He was honored with fair play award for his genuine actions. His admittance of handball is most talked about. He had goal against Napoli in September 2012. He admitted this to referee. In turn, referee didn’t penalize with yellow card rather shook hand. The News was viral over the internet.

Klose was born in Poland and knew only two German worlds when he arrived in Germany in 1986. His Spouse is Sylwia Klose who is also Polish-born. They are married since 2004.
