The former Fox News host, Megyn Kelly's interview with the controversial conspiracy theorist radio host and the founder of the website Infowars Alex Jones got a lot of public attention before its release but could only bring the average of 3.5 million viewers Sunday Night.

The telecast Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly gathered the lowest number of visitors since its debut three weeks ago. The show remained behind the re-run episode of CBS 60 minutes which had 5.3 million viewers.

According to Neilsen Media Research Kelly's show came last among the top four networks' 7 p.m show. It was beaten by ABC's America’s Funniest Home Videos, CBS's 60 minutes and Fox's U.S. Golf Open Championship coverage which received the highest viewers of 6.1 million.

Kelly's interview with Russian President Putin had the average of 6.2 million viewers on its debut on June 4.

The interview became the major rating flop for the network, though it had gained huge public attention before its airing. However, it received a lot of criticisms from the viewers.

Jones, the founder of conspiracy website Infowars was in a controversy for claiming the 9/11 attack as an "inside job" and the Sandy Hook massacre as a "hoax." Some of the family members of the victims in the massacre wrote the letter to NBC asking not to run the interview.

One of the parents, Neil Heslin, of the 6-year-old child, Jesse Lewis who was killed appeared on Kelly's show when asked if he had anything to tell Jones said:

I think he’s blessed to have his children to spend the day with, to speak to. I don’t have that.

CNN Media's critic Brian Lowry praised her interview with Jones and wrote:

The main test, which the segment passed, was whether 'Sunday Night' articulated a tough enough case and cross-examination to demonstrate that this was a legitimate topic -- even at the risk of providing Infowars wider mainstream exposure.

Kelly will now appear on the next episode of her show with an interview with “Hillbilly Elegy” author J.D. Vance and will be trying to convince her viewers.
