Megan Elizabeth Laura Diana Follows, a Canadian actress, is known for roles as Anne Shirley in the 1985 Canadian TV series Anne of Green Gables and its sequels.

In 2017, she appeared in the TV series Murdoch Mysteries alongside Yannick Bisson, Thomas Craig, Helene Joy and Jonny Harris.

From 2013-17, she enacted as Queen Catherine de’ Medici in the TV series Reign. The Reign featured Adelaide Kane, Celina Sinden, Torrance Coombs, Craig Parker and other stars. 

Early Life and Education

Megan Follows was born as Megan Elizabeth Laura Diana Follows in the Ontario, Canada. The 49-year-old actress was born as the youngest of four kids to father Ted Follows and mother Dawn Greenhalgh.

They were theater artists. Growing up with her siblings, she was influenced by acting both due to her parents as well as her own involvement into it.

At the age of 6, her parents separated and she began living with her mother and elder sister in the United States. Born and raised in a religious family, Megan is also a Christian just like the rest of her family.She is a Canadian by birth but also has a American nationality, and belongs to White-Canadian ethnicity. 

She studied the first half of her childhood in Toronto at the Grams Chapel High, where she already used to act. Learning to dance as she was growing up, she also took part in many talent hunt programs and beauty shows and was a popular kid in her hometown.

After her parent’s divorce, she moved to California and joined a local public school, as well as a community theatre where she explored much of her acting. A hard-working girl in her class, she was also very good in sports and used to be the Chess Champion of her later school.


After graduation, Follows spent her time landing roles in theatres and community plays, after which she was cast in some small TV shows. In the early part of her life, she had already made appearances in Canadian shows like Matt and Jenny, The Baxters and The Littlest Hobo.

Her first major role was in the Canadian series of Anne of Green Gables, where she played the role of Anne Shirley. She won the role over thousands of contestants and competitors and earned a reputation for her part in it.

It was so popular that it went on and became the highest- earning TV series in Canada, and Megan became one of the hit young actress of that time.

Personal Life

Follows is a divorcee. She was previously married to Christopher David Porter, a Canadian gaffer and photographer. She met him on the set of Deep Sleep and married in 1991.

The couple welcomed two children together- Anne Porter (born 1991) and Russell Porter (born 1994). Unfortunately, they divorced in 1996. After divorcing him, she began dating actor Stuart Hughes.

The duo lived together for over one decade and broke up in 2010. She is not dating anyone currently at least (publicly).
