Niki Lauda died on 20 May 2019 at the age of 70 at the University Hospital of Zürich. He had multiple operations before his demise. Sources suggest that his then-future wife Birgit even donated a kidney to Lauda. On 2nd August 2018, Birgit also underwent a lung transplant operation in his native Australia.
