He is also recognized for his roles, Jimmie Lee Jackson in Selma (2014), Marquis a.k.a. Bug Dope (2014), Snoop Dogg in Straight Outta Compton (2015) and Patrick Haynes in Snowden (2016).

Lakeith Stanfield was born Lakeith Lee Stanfield on 12 August 1991 in San Bernardino, California. He was raised in Riverside and Victorville, California. Talking about his family, he said that he "grew up very poor in a fractured family that was dysfunctional on both sides".
Since he was always interested in acting, Stanfield attended the John Casablancas Modeling and Career Center in Los Angeles.

Stanfield started his career in the entertainment industry after getting trained at the Los Angeles' John Casablancas Modeling & Career Center. He first made his first appearance in the short film Short Term 12 in 2009.
A year later, he was seen in the short film Gimme Grace (2010). After that, because of the lack of new work, he started doing gardening, roof work, at AT&T and at a legal marijuana dispensary. Later, Cretton contacted him to reappear in a feature-length adaption of Short Term 12 (2013) which is his first feature film.
In 2014, Stanfield appeared in the movies The Purge: Anarchy and Selma. After a year he then appeared in the short film named King Ripple as King Ripple, Tracks as Lawrence. Similarly, in 2015, he appeared in the movies named Miles Ahead, Memoria and in Straight Outta Compton where he portrayed the role of Snoop Dogg.
Soon after that, he began starring in the series Atlanta. During that time, he also starred in the films Live Cargo and Snowden. He has also appeared in many movies such as Crown Heights, Get Out, The Incredible Jessica James, War Machine, Death Note among others.
