Koke was born on January 8, 1992, in Madrid, Spain. Spanish by nationality, he belongs to the Spaniard ethnicity/race.

Koke spent his early career at Atlético Madrid's youth system at the age of eight. He made his debut for the team playing a 2–5 away loss against FC Barcelona on September 19, 1990. He came after the second half of the game as a substitute for Paulo Assunção.

Koke's Professional Career

Koke scored his first league goal for Atletico against Sevilla FC on February 26, 2011. His header from Diego Forlán cross at the 47th-minute of the game made it 1–1 in an eventual 2–2 home draw.

Koke scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League, netting the only goal of a quarter-final against Barcelona, sending the club to the semi-finals for the first time since 1974.

Koke signed a new five-year contract with Atletico on June 25, 2014. He was named Man of the match in their Champions League group match at Malmö FF on 4 November, scoring the first goal of a 2–0 victory.

Koke was a member of the Spain U20 team that reached the quarter-finals at the 2011 U20 World Cup held in Colombia. He featured in the Spanish squad at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
