French professional footballer, Benjamin Mendy is playing as a left back for Premier League club Manchester City and the France national team. He represented his country in the quarterfinals in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup as part of the under 17 French national team. The young talent, Mendy, has played at various youth level for France and made his international senior team debut in 2017. He will also be part of the French squad participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life And Education Of Benjamin Mendy

Benjamin Mendy was born on 17th July 1994 in Longjumeau, France under the birth sign Cancer. He belongs to Caucasian ethnicity/race and holds French nationality.

Mendy was born to Monique Mendy and Mendy Snr.Benjamin. At the early age of six, he started playing football at FC Palaiseau, where he remained till 2007. He then joined Le Havre’s youth team.

Benjamin Mendy’s Career

Benjamin Mendy began his career in the academy of second-tier side Le Havre, making 57 appearances for the first team before Marseille came calling.

On 24 July 2011, Mendy signed his first three-year contract with Ligue 2 club Le Havre. He then made his professional debut in the team's 2–1 Coupe de la Ligue second-round defeat to Amiens on 9 August 2011.

On 8 July 2013, Mendy signed with Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille. The same year on 11th August, he made his club and Ligue 1 debut against Guingamp. In his second season with the Marseille, he was included on the 40-man shortlist for the “2014 Golden Boy Award”.

Mendy played with 5 different managers in 3 seasons at the Stade Velodrome with overall 81 appearances and scoring 2 goals.


On 22 June 2016, Mendy signed a five-year contract with Olympique de Marseille's Ligue 1 rivals Monaco. He made his debut for the club in the first leg of the Champions League third round match against Fenerbahçe on 27 July.

On 1st March 2017, Mendy scored his first goal for Monaco in the Coupe de France against former club Marseille. He was a key part of Monaco's 2016–17 Ligue 1 championship season as he started for the team in 24 matches under Portuguese football manager, Leonardo Jardim.

The same year of May, Mendy became the 2017 UNFP Team of the Year, along with 5 of his teammates.

On 24th July 2017, Mendy moved to Premier League side Manchester City signing a 5-year contract, for a reported fee of £52 million.

On 29th September, Mendy playing against Crystal Palace sustained an injury, hurting his right knee following a challenge against Palace forward English professional footballer, Andros Townsend.

Mendy underwent surgery in Barcelona on 29th September and returned from injury on 22 April 2018 as a 75th-minute substitute for English professional footballer, Fabian Delph in a game against Swansea City at the City of Manchester Stadium. Mendy has played 4 games for the club to date.

Benjamin Mendy has represented his national side both in junior and senior level, playing in several tournaments. He was part of France U17 national team, which reached the quarter-finals at the “2011 FIFA U17 World Cup”.

In March 2017, Mendy received his first call-up to play for France against Luxembourg and Spain. The same year of 25th March, he made his international debut in a 3-1 away win at “2018 FIFA World Cup qualification”. So far, for his nation, he has secured 3 caps.

On May 17, 2018, Mendy was included in the 23 man squad to represent France in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
