Born and raised in Minneapolis, Rachael Leigh Cook is an American actress, model, voice artist, and producer. She is best known for her role in films like She's All That (1999) and Josie and the Pussycats (2001). She debuted in acting from the 1995 film, The Baby-Sitters Club as  Mary Anne Spier. She rose to fame after featuring in the famous TV advertisement, This Is Your Brain on Drugs PSA.

Early Life And Education Of Rachel Leigh Cook

Rachel Leigh Cook was born on October 4, 1979, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to  Joann Cook and Thomas H. Cook. Her mother was a  cooking instructor and weaver whereas her father was a social worker and former stand-up comedian. She is of Italian descent.

At the age of 7, Cook appeared in the public service announcement for foster care. By the age of 10, she started working as a child print model. She has featured in the boxes of Milk-Bone dog biscuits. She attended Clara Barton Open School and later joined Laurel Springs School and Minneapolis South High School.

Rachel Leigh Cook started auditioning for roles from the age of 14. She debuted in films from the 1995 film,  The Baby-Sitters Club. After a year, she featured in a short film, 26 Summer Street. She came to limelight after her role in the movie Country Justice where she played a 15-year-old rape victim impregnated by her rapist.

In 1999, Cook landed a role in the sleeper hit film She's All That and for the role she earned Young Star Award. She was the cover girl for the US issue of FHM for March and April issue in 2000. She also starred in the music videos of the songs Dressed to Kill and Love You Lately. Some of her screen credit includes 11:14,  Into the West, The Final Season,  Titan Maximum, and Robot Chicken.

In 2000, Cook won  Santa Monica Flim Festival Award for The Hi-Line. After a year, she received Young Hollywood Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Female. She also won  Bronze Wrangler award for television feature film, Into the West. She ranked #26 in Stuff Magazine's '102 Sexiest Women in the World in 2002.

 In 2007, she starred in Nacy Drew as Jane Brighton. In 2010, Cook appeared in Fox TV's comedy pilot Nirvana as a female lead. She then signed on to play the female lead role in the TNT crime drama series, Perception opposite Eric McCormack. In 2016, she worked with Hallmark Channel original film, Summer Love and after a year, she starred in another Hallmark film, Autumn In the Vineyard followed by its sequel in 2017.

Besides acting, Cook also voiced in several animated series and films. She voiced Chelsea Cunningham on the Kids' WB animated series Batman Beyond. Her notable voice roles are in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, video games Kingdom Hearts II, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, and  Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Rachel Leigh Cook's Personal Life

Rachel Cook married her longtime actor boyfriend, Daniel Gillies. The duo exchanged vows in August 2014 at a private yet lavish ceremony.

The couple dated for nearly three years before tying the knot. They are blessed with two children, daughter Charlotte Easton Gillies (born September 2013) and son Theodore Vigo Sullivan Gillies (born April 2015).

She was selected by the Obama administration in 2011 as a Champion of Change for Arts Education.

Cook started awarding small scholarships to students between ages 14 and 19. She reprised her This Is Your Brain on Drugs role after 20 years which was posted to YouTube on April 20, 2017, in recognition of 4/20.

Cook has a  toothbrush collection at her parents' home in Minneapolis, used to collect before her marriage. She has two cats Beau and Skippy at Minnesota. She wanted to play the role of Kate Nolan from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn which she often referred to as her dream role.
