Keith Richards was born on December 18, 1943, at Livingston Hospital, in Dartford, Kent, England, to his parents Herbert William Richards and Doris Maud Lydia. He doesn't have a sibling.
His father was a factory worker who was injured in the Second World War during the Normandy invasion. His paternal grandparents, Ernie Richards and Eliza Richards, were socialists and civic leaders.
His dad discouraged him from a music career but his grandfather, who was a big band jazzman, encouraged his desire to play guitar. He is of American nationality and belongs to white ethnicity.
