Jerry Sheindlin is a former professional attorney and judge. He gained popularity for being gentle and full of humor. After retiring as the judge, he started his career in television. As a television personality, he has worked for many well-known television programs like The People's Court, Entertainment Tonight, and Biography. His marital relationship with one of the highest-paid TV hosts Judge Judy Sheindlin also brought him into the stardom.

Early Life 

Jerry Sheindlin was born on November 19, 1933, in New York City, New York, United States of America. He holds American nationality and belongs to White American ethnicity.

Sheindlin grew up in NYC along with his family. During the Korean War, he joined the Navy, in 1951. But, he later enrolled at Long Island University. He was a dedicated and talented student at the University despite his low High School grades. He completed his studies in two and a half years with an A grade.

After graduation, Sheindlin attended Brooklyn Law School and earned his J.D. in 1959.

Jerry Sheindlin started his career working in the law firm Adlerberg & Sheindlin where he spent more than two decades mostly handling criminal cases. In 1980, he was appointed as a United States Administrative Law Judge and held the post for a couple of years before becoming a Criminal Court Judge in New York.

In 1986, Sheindlin served on the New York State Supreme Court. During his early judicial career, he had written more than 64 published opinions. At that time, he also authored a 46-page opinion on the admission of DNA forensic evidence in a murder case. Besides, Jerry is an author of two books Blood Trail and Genetic Fingerprinting.

After his retirement in 1999, Sheindlin joined the TV program The People's Court as a short-lived judge. He worked in the program until he was replaced by Judge Marilyn Milian, in 2001.

In November 2018, Judy made a hefty $100 million after selling Judith Sheindlin's rights in Judge Judy to CBS. In August 2017, she made $200 million after the sale of the Judge Judy Library to CBS TV Distribution. 

The couple owns a five-bedroom condo at The Montage in Beverly Hills. Its worth is $10.7 million. They have also a penthouse in Naples, Florida where they currently reside. The house features four bedrooms and an enclosed lagoon. Its current value is $11 million.

Married Life With His Loving Wife Judy Sheindlin 

Jerry Sheindlin has been married twice. He has never talked about his first wife. But his second marriage to Judy Sheindlin is still going strong despite their long-term partnership has seen a few twists and turns. The lovebirds met for the first time in a bar while he was a defense attorney and his wife was a prosecutor.

They tied the knot in 1977. They welcomed their first child, a son Gregory Sheindlin, in 1964. They also gave birth to two other children, a son Jonathan Sheindlin in 1967 and a daughter Nicole Sheindlin in 1968. His wife Judy is an American prosecution lawyer, former Manhattan family court judge, as well as a writer.

The husband-and-wife divorced briefly in 1990, after 14 years of marriage. Judy later said that she did not feel supported by her husband Jerry after her father's death. But the couple rekindled and remarried a year later. She told in Closer Weekly,

I like to have someone to fuss over. I like to be mated. It’s natural for me. I learned the hard way that sometimes what you think makes you happy won’t.

The happy couple currently resides in Florida. As of 2019, Jerry is aged 86 years.
