The rumor of their dating started after they two appeared together quite often during the promotion of the movie, but according to a source, the pair were spotted on several dates in Los Angeles where they were caught holding hands and kissing.

DuVernay is also a writer. She started her writing career with the drama, Middle of Nowhere, in 2012. She is the first Black woman to win Best Director award at Sundance Film Festival, and the first Black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe for her movie Selma.
