Her lawyer, Payam Derafshan, confirmed the AFP News in a statement he made to Iran’s IRNA state news agency revealing that his client was accused of encouraging corruption and debauchery. She was convicted for breaking the law that requires a woman to wear a traditional headscarf.

Vida is not the first woman who had been engaged in such type of protests. Her act had been copied by several young Iranian women who also faced criminal charges for going bareheaded in the public.

Derafshan told AFP that the judge was very sympathetic to the fact that Vida has a two years old daughter and she did not have any political motive for her actions.

Vida has been in jail for the past five months and has unsuccessfully sought release.

The original protest took place in Iran’s capital city, Enghelab Square in Tehran. The Iranian media has named her as Revolution Street Girl.

Jangravi was also one of the at least 39 women who got arrested last year in connection with hijab protests. Around 55 people were detained from their work on women’s right that includes women who tried to enter football stadiums illegally and lawyers advocating for women.
