Dorothy Malone, an American actress, was a Hollywood Walk of Fame Inductee and a winner of the prestigious Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The actress was known best for her performance in the movie Written on the Wind and The Tarnished Angels. Her role on Peyton Place from 1964-68 also brought her further success. 

Early Life, Bio, And Education Dorothy Malone

Dorothy Eloise Malone was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 30, 1924. She was born in a devout Christian family to parents Esther Emma Smith and Robert Ignatius Malone. She is an American by nationality and belongs to the White-American ethnicity. Malone's father was an auditor.

Born one of five children to her parents, two of Dorothy's sisters died due to polio complications. 

Malone completed her schooling at Ursuline Convent, Highland Park High School, and Hockaday School. She has been interested in dancing since her childhood. She modeled for Neiman Marcus as a child.

Initially, Malone dreamt of becoming a nurse. However, she enrolled at Southern Methodist University in Dallas to study drama. 

Maloney was a winning diver and a swimmer at Southern Methodist University. RKO scout spotted her in a performance in a drama she did while in the University and offered her a Hollywood contract.

Dorothy Malone's Career 

After signing a Hollywood contract with RKO, Dorothy Malone started taking acting/singing/dancing/diction lessons. She made her film debut in 1943 with an unaccredited role in Gildersleeve on Broadway. 

She also got small roles in the Frank Sinatra musicals Higher and Higher and Step Lively.

After the two-year-long contract with RKO was up, Warner Bros offered her a small role as a seductive book clerk in the movie The Big Sleep. Though the role was small, it helped her to accumulate positive critical acclaim, which helped her land more movie roles. 

However, Warner Bros did not extend Malone's contract, so she returned to her family in Dallas. Dorothy Malone started working at an insurance agency.

In 1956, Dorothy Malone transformed her hair to Platinum Blonde and shed her ‘good girl image for the movie Written on the Wind, which won her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

After her first Oscar,  Malone was offered substantial roles in movies like Warlock with Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, and Man of Thousand Faces with James Cagney, among others.

Dorothy Malone appeared in the 1992 movie Basic Instinct with Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone. The movie was commercially successful, grossing over $352 million worldwide. 

Dorothy Malone's Net Worth And Earnings 

Dorothy Malone's movie Young at Heart (1954) paid her $90,000, and Quantez's (1957) $125,000, among thousands and millions coming from her other movie and TV roles. 

Dorothy Malone's net worth was $5 million matching Jon Snow, most likely, or more, given her fruitful and long-standing acting career. She was also involved in real estate after her Hollywood career. However, official figures aren't out.

Dorothy Malone's Married, Spouse, And Relationship

Dorothy Malone was often linked with the actor Scott Brady. They were even rumored to be engaged in 1952. During 1953 and 1954, Malone was rumored to be with celebrities like Bill Holmes and Frank Sinatra

Dorothy Malone made headlines for having three boyfriends simultaneously, all of them coming to see her in Hollywood. 

Dorothy Malone married thrice in her lifetime. Her first husband was a wed actor named Jacques Bergerac. She has two daughters, Mimi and Diane, with her first husband. Malone divorced Bergerac in 1964, accusing him of marrying her only for fame.

Dorothy Malone married Robert Tomarkin in 1969, but the same year, their marriage got annulled, and then she married Charles Huston Bell in 1971. Malone divorced her third husband in 1973. 

Dorothy Malone spent her retired life in Dallas with his daughters. She is the grandmother of five of her grandchildren. 

The actress sadly passed away on January 19, 2018, at the age of 93 and ten days before her 94th birthday, at a nursing facility in Dallas.
