David James Elliott is a Canadian actor who rose to fame after playing the role of Harman Rabb Jr. in the NCIS legal drama television series JAG. David James Elliott was born as David Williams Smith in Milton, Ontario, Canada, on September 21, 1960. He is the son of Patricia Smith and Arnold Smith

His father was a heating and plumbing wholesale contractor while his mother was an office manager. He was raised along with two siblings.

Elliott attended Milton District High School but he left the college in the final year to become part of a band. At the age of 19, he returned to college to finish his studies.

Following his graduation from Milton District High School, he enrolled at Ryerson University in Toronto, where he completed his graduation in  1982.

Later, he went to the Stratford Shakespearean Festival in Ontario. He holds Canadian nationality and belongs to the white ethnicity.

David James Elliott started his acting career in 1986 with the role of Cadet Baxter in the comedy film Police Academy 3: Back in Traning. That same year, he appeared in the television drama series The Campbells.

His other early projects include The Climb, The Big Town, The Hitchhiker, and China Beach. In 1995, Elliott got the main role of Harmon 'Harm' Rabb Jr. in the legal drama television series JAG. He worked on the show until 2005, along with Tracey Needham, Catherine Bell, and Scott Lawrence.

In 2006, David appeared on three TV shows Sixty Minute Man, Medium and Close to Home. Later in 2010, he joined the cast of television series Scoundrels. The same year, he was cast in Confined, Terror Trap and Dad's Home.

In 2013, Elliott got a role in the sci-fi film Exploding Sun. A year later, he was featured in Mad Men and Stranded. He played the role of John Wayne in Jay Roach's Trumbo in 2015.

Most recently, David appeared in The Obituary of Tunde Johnson and NCIS: Los Angeles in 2019. As of now, the actor plays the role of James Davis on Netflix series, Spinning Out.
