"Mad Mike" Hughes, a daredevil who appeared as a guest on Comedy Central show Tosh.0, died on Saturday, February 22, while attempting to launch a homemade rocket in Barstow, California. He was 64.
The Science Channel confirmed the tragic news in a statement. The channel said,
Michael 'Mad Mike' Hughes tragically pa s sed away today during an attempt to launch his homemade rocket. Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family & friends during this difficult time. It was always his dream to do this launch & Science Channel was there to chronicle his journey.
Hughes was launching his homemade rocket on February 22 but shortly after the liftoff, the rocket broke up and plunged back to the ground, according to the video obtained. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office immediately responded to the scene.
The rocket, which he designed and built himself, was set to be featured on the Science Channel series, Homemade Astronauts.

Hughes used to believe that the Earth is flat and so he launched himself homemade rockets multiple times in a hope that one day he could reach a distance where he could see whether Earth is round or flat for himself.
