D. L. Hughley is one of the prominent faces in the field of acting. The legendary actor is well known for being the host of BET’s ComicView from 1992-1993. He is a prominent American actor, political commentator and also a stand-up comedian. Hughley is known for being the main character in ABC/UPN’s The Hughleys and also a famous member of the Original Kings of Comedy. Hughley has an innate ability to make people laugh and is thus adored by his viewers. He has been the host of D.L. Hughley Breaks the News which is aired by CNN. Hughley is also a correspondent for NBC’s The Jay Leno Show.

Early Life And Education Of D. L. Hughley

Darryl Lynn Hughley was born on 6th March 1963 in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of parents Audrey Hughley and Charles Hughley (a maintenance worker at Delta Air Lines). Hughley from birth was a comic character among his family and friends.

Hughley was banned from the San Pedro High School. 

D. L. Hughley's Professional Career 

D. L. Hughley was quite interested in the comedy from his early age. So looking at this excellent ability he wanted to pursue a comedian career in the entertainment arena. Hughley went on to work in a stand-up comedy program on BET known as ComicView. He worked as a host in ComicView from 1992 to 1993.

Hughley then left ComicView and proceeded to write, produce and star in his own series The Hughleys in 1998. Darryl hosted this television sitcom series till 2002. Hughley left most of his work to enjoy time with his family and later in 2005 he returned to release a stand-up comedy album titled “D.L. Hughley: Notes From The GED Section”.

Hughley also had a transitory talk show titled “Weekends at the D.L.” on Comedy Central. Darryl earned much of his fame at that time. Darryl became a member of The Original Kings of Comedy. He appeared on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and was also seen as character Truck’s brother in Scrubs on NBC.

Due to his popularity as a host and a comedian, Hughley became the host of BET Awards in 2008. There was an announcement made by NBC in June 2010 that it had ordered a game show pilot that hugely would host which was titled  Who’s Bluffing Who? In the very same time, Hughley became a special guest moderator for one day of The View on ABC.

Hughley was scheduled by TBS to guest star in its Glory Daze and also to become a guest host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. On 31st July 2012, Hughley published his first book titled I Want You to Shut the f** K Up: How the Audacity of Dope Is Ruining America by Crown Archetype Press.  

Hughley was seen as a contestant in the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars. Darryl became partners with the two-time champion Cheryl Burke. The very next year he became the co-host in the television show Trust Me, I’m a Game Show Host. Darryl became the host and writer of the comedic news-show on CNN titled D.L.

Hughley breaks the News that aired on Saturday, 25th October 2008. This show covers global happenings in politics, entertainment, sports and also pop-culture due to which it has high ratings. But due to Hughley’s desire to work in Los Angeles and be closer to his family, CNN announced on 9th March 2009 that he would be ending the show. But later Darryl showed his keenness to work with CNN as a Los Angeles-based contributor for the network.   

Hughley began working as an on-air radio personality on 20th July 2009 when his show The D.L. Hughley Morning Show premiered on WRKS/WEPN at 98.7 Kiss FM. It aired from 6-10 am and was listened by many and adored by thousands. In addition, he is a local radio personality and an interviewer in New York City. D.L was briefly seen as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars 2013 season.

REACH media announced exclusively on 12th August 2013 that they had finalized a deal with Darryl and that he would be the host of The D.L Hughley Show which was distributed by Cumulus Media Networks and was a new nationally syndicated afternoon drive show.

D.L. Hughley has an estimated net worth of around $10 million, as per celebrity net worth, in 2019. In the year 2003, the actor was a cast in the movie Scary Movie 3 which was turned out to be a box office hit grossing more than $220 million worldwide against its producing cost of $48 million. In the movie, he played the role along with Anna Faris, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Hart, Leslie Nielsen, and Camryn Manheim.

D.L. Hughley's Personal Life And Relationship 

D.L. Hughley married the love of his life, Ladonna on 22nd February 1986. The couple has not had any publicly known arguments since their marriage and has never been near to divorce. Darryl and his wife are parents of children Ryan, Tyler, and Kyle.

Their son Kyle suffers from Asperger syndrome that is considered to be an elevated functioning form of autism and has the ability to lead to difficulty in interacting socially, repeat behaviors and also uneasiness in trying new things. Hughley has discussed his son’s syndrome on many occasions and has helped similar kids.

Darryl puts his family prior to his work and is a devoted father who seeks time to be with his lovely kids and wife. All things considered, Hughley has been able to balance his family and work environment.
