Christon Staples was born on 26th December 1986 in Los Angeles, California under the birth sign Capricorn.
Staples is a professional dunker. Previously, he was involved in corporate jobs in Detroit and later he sent an email to an exhibition basketball team, Harlem Globetrotters after being bored from his corporate jobs. He was then called up by the club and started visiting several places with the club. While playing for the club, he was nicknamed Smooth.
After engaging with the club for months, he decided to try out a new career as an actor. He stated,
''[The Globetrotters] weren’t going to let me leave the tour for something that wasn’t a big-budget film even though it was with a well-known director. So I had to make a tough decision because I couldn’t do both. I had to take a step back and think about my career at that point. I had great success with the Globetrotters and was making moves as far as branding myself and getting my name out there. I decided to take a chance and resign from the Globetrotters and try acting and make this movie.''
In 2017, Staples worked in his first sports drama film Slamma Jamma directed by Timothy A. Chey. In the movie, he played the role of Michael Diggs, a former promising basketball player, preparing for a national dunking competition after serving six years in prison for the crime which he did not commit.
Besides, in 2016, he won a charity Dunk Fest after jumping over a moving Chevrollette Corvette and also jumping over four children before a 360-degree spin. Before being the contestant on The Bachelorette, Staples traveled to various cities and countries showing his dunk skills and tricks.

In 2018, Staples appeared on the reality show The Bachelorette 14 which premiered on 28th May 2018. He along with other contestants Garrett Yrigoyen, Clay Harbor, Jordan Kimball, Leo Dottavio among others participated on the show to win the heart of Becca Kufrin.
During the premiere of the show, Staples showed his balling skills to Kufrin and tossed the ball over her head.
