A dramatic footage has retrieved by officials showing a ma s sive 40 car pile-up unfolded on a snowy Michigan interstate highway.
Police have revealed the visibility was poor when a car spun out of control on the southbound US-31 in Muskegon in the state's southwest on Friday afternoon.
After the first crash, several other cars and trucks plowed into each other on the icy, snow-covered highway. Surprisingly, only three people suffered minor injuries in the pile-up.
Jim Perreault, the Muskegon native, was in his Chevy truck with his wife Sue when they spun out of control and stopped on the side of the interstate. He said, he then started to filming as other drivers struggled to control their vehicle on the slippery surface.
In the photos taken by a local towing company show, multiple wrecks piled up across the highway, which took around three hours for the authorities to clear the road.
Police have been investigating the crash on the Muskegon highway where there were more than nine inches of fresh snow on Friday alone.
