A Washington mother has been arrested after she shot her daughter, 14 to death during a fierce family dispute on Tuesday, 18th December.
Renton Police reported the teen was shot by her mother while she tried to call 911 to report a fight between her mother and father at their home in the 47000 block of Smithers Avenue S.
The victim was found dead in her bedroom with a gunshot wound in her head. Her brother was in another room with his legs and hands tied and a sock stuffed in his mouth.
Renton Police Department spokesperson, Sandra Havlik released a statement saying,
It is unfathomable. We believe there was a parenting plan in place but recent child custody issues that may have changed.
The statement further said,
During the dispute, the mother confronted the daughter, while she was on the phone with 911, and then fatally shot her. Initial indications are that there was a recent child custody issue where the mother had lost custody of her children.
According to the ABC Action News, the fight began when the suspect's ex-husband, Michael Gulizia came to her home
Svetlana Laurel, 52, is booked with murder, attempted murder in the first degree, and three counts of unlawful imprisonment.
She is being held at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle. She is set to appear in court on December 21.
