Their car collided with the back of a semi-trailer truck on a dark stretch of highway, killing Jayne Mansfield, Brody, and the driver of the car instantly. Tony and his siblings, who were in the back seat, survived the accident with minor injuries.

The accident was a major news story at the time and the graphic photos of the scene circulated widely in the media. As per allthatsinteresting, it was later revealed that Mansfield and Brody had been travelling in the front seat of the car, which had been modified and had no top.
