Jose Pacheco, wife Ana, 11 years' old daughter Mariana, and their 10 years' old son, Angel were all sleeping when Ismael crashed into the trailer. The parents and the little boy died at the scene while the girl was hospitalized in serious condition.
According to the residents nearby, Jardinez tried to run away from the wreckage but witnesses tackled him and held him until the police arrived.
The Sutter County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the 33 years' old had been released following a bail of $300 thousand. The CHP had asked for a $1 million bond for the suspect, however, the judge set his bail at only $300,000 denying the officials.
Most of my family is hurt by the fact that it was a drunk driver. This could have been avoided had they not been drinking or had they taken a different road or something.
Jose's niece, Jennifer Sicairos says sadly. She further claims,
Jose was really close with all of us. Knowing that he's not going to be there now there's going to be an empty space there. The fact that my cousin has to live now without her mom and her dad and her brother is even worse.
Jardinez is due back in court on June 10.
Though that, Ismael was taken into the custody by the ICE Fugitive Operations Team on Tuesday following his re-entry to the US illegally. According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson Paul Prince, Ismael Huazo-Jardinez had been apprehended in Arizona eight years ago and had voluntarily returned to Mexico.
