A South Carolina man fatally shot his daughter after he mistook her for an intruder early Sunday morning, authorities revealed.
The shooting occurred at their Greenville house shortly after 1 a.m., and the victim is identified as Nadeja Jermainequa Pressley, 23. Authorities revealed the man shot his daughter through a door at the home.
A Greenville County Sheriff's Office spokesman said the girl's father shot her in the belief that she was an intruder trying to broke into the house, however, he was devastated to find out the person another side of the door was his daughter.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene while the investigation is being carried on. A neighbor told a local media that she heard two firings and saw police everywhere afterward.
In a similar incident in Ohio in January 2016, a father shot his son to death after he mistook him for an intruder. In the case, the father was not charged, however, it is still unclear whether the unidentified father would be charged with his daughter's death or not.
