Successful American gymnast Simone Biles is an example of many people who are struggling to make themselves count. Despite her very difficult childhood, the gymnast was able to do the thing she is passionate about and good at.

Early Life, Parents

Simone Biles was born Simone Arianne Biles on 14 March 1997 in Columbus, Ohio making her 25 years old as of April 2022. Her biological parents, Shannon Biles and Kelvin Clemons were unable to take care of Simone and her siblings due to drug addiction.

Her father was never there for Simone and her three siblings; however, Simone's maternal grandparent Ronald Biles and his second wife, Nellie Biles, took care of them. Biles holds American nationality, and her ethnicity is Afro-American. 

About Siblings

The gymnast grew up with her three siblings; two sisters, Adria Biles and Ashley Biles, and a brother named Tevin Biles.

Later Simone and Adria were officially adopted by their maternal grandparents, whereas her elder siblings, Ashley Biles and Tevin Biles, were adopted by their grandfather Ronald Biles' sister. Her sister Adria is also a gymnast.  

Educational Details

Biles completed her secondary school as a homeschooler and graduated in 2015. Since 2014, she has been verbally committed to the University of California, Los Angeles.

Since January 2018, she studied business administration at the University of the People. Biles is also the brand ambassador for the University.  

Started Career At Six

World-famous gymnast Simone Biles began her gymnastics career at an early age. She first tried gymnastics at the age of 6. On her first try, she continued her gymnastics career and attended Bannon's Gymnastix for an optional training program. Then at age 8, Biles began professional training with the artistic coach Aimee Boorman. 

With her strong base in gymnastics, she began her career by participating in the American Cla s sic in Houston in 2011. In her first-ever performance, she was placed third all-around, with first on vault and balance beam, fourth on floor exercise, and eighth on uneven bars.

Career After 2012

Following an impressive beginning, she did an amazing performance the following year. Biles was placed first all-around in the American Classic in Huntsville, Texas. Her performance in the American Classic led her to participate in the 2012 USA Gymnastics National Championships. At the 2012 U.S. Classic, Chicago, she again finished first all-around. 

Afterward, the gymnast made her international debut in March 2013 in the American Cup, a FIG World Cup event. For her incredible performance, Biles was compared to the popular gymnast Elizabeth Price and Kyla Ross. She then participated in the 2013 City of Jesolo Trophy, Jesolo, Italy, and took the all-around, contributing a gold medal to the American team. 

Won Three Titles in WGC

Likewise, Biles participated in the 2014 USA Gymnastics National Championships and won the all-around with a wide margin. Then after the gymnast secured her spot in the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship, Nanning, China. Biles dominated the preliminary round and was placed first all-around. 

Continuing her victorious journey, Simone won three consecutive all-around titles at the World Gymnastics Championship in the year 2015, becoming the first female to win three consecutive all-around titles in history. Following the victory, the star was sponsored by the world-famous multinational corporation Nike.

Became Female Olympic Athlete of the Year

 Biles was honored as the Team USA Female Olympic Athlete of the Year in December 2015. Biles was the fourth gymnast to receive the honor. 

Looking at her impressive scores and performance, the gymnast was selected to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janerio. In August 2016, Biles competed in the Women's Qualification at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

On the 9th of August, she won her first-ever Olympic gold medal on the gymnastics team. Then, she again won the gold medal individual all-around on the 11th of August.

 The sportsperson again won the second individual gold medal in the Olympics with a score of 15.966. Later, she won her fourth gold medal for her score of 15.966 in the women's floor exercise final. With four gold medals, the amazing gymnast set an American record for the most gold medals in women's gymnastics in a single game. 

Following the victory, Biles became the sixth female gymnast to win the all-around titles at the World Championships and the Olympic Games after the gymnasts Larisa LatyninaVera CaslavskaLudmilla TourischevaElena Shushunova, and Lilia Podkopayeva.

Won ESPY Awards for Best Female Athlete

Amid her victorious gymnastic journey, the acclaimed gymnast decided to take a break in the year 2017. That year, Simone won the ESPY Awards for Best Female Athlete, becoming the second gymnast to win the award after Nastia Liukin

Approx a year-long hiatus, Biles officially joined the United States women's artistic gymnastics team in March 2018. In her first comeback game at the U.S. Cla s sic, she won the all-around by defeating Riley McCusker. Recently in August, she competed at the National Championship, finishing up first in every game. After Dominique Dawes, Simone is the first gymnast to do so. 

Participated in Dancing with the Stars

Besides her extravagant gymnastic career, the athlete participated in the popular American dance competition television series Dancing with the Stars. In the series, Biles was partnered with the Australian professional dancer Sasha Farber. Despite her incredible performance in the dance show, she was eliminated in May 2017. 

Alongside her television appearance, Biles has also written her autobiographical book Courage to Soar. In the book, she specifically shares her gymnastic journey. The book was also adopted in the television film titled The Simone Bies Story: Courage to Soar in 2018.

Biles was previously in a romantic relationship with her boyfriend, Stacey Ervin Jr., a gymnastics coach. Biles and Ervin dated for some years. The former lovebirds were so in love and weren't shy to show their love for one another in public.

Accused the Larry Nassar

In January 2018, Biles accused the former USA Gymnastics national team doctor Larry Nassar of physically abusing her. Nassar was convicted as a serial child abuser, and more than 150 federal and state lawsuits have been filed against the doctor. Later in May, it was declared that she and other survivors would be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award

Health Issue

The incredible gymnast Simone Biles has gone through several health issues. From minor injuries to significant health problems, she fought back and stood strong, not letting that affect her gymnastic career. In 2016, following the confirmation of her participation in the Summer Olympics, her medical report was released when the Russian cyber espionage group Fancy Bear's hacked the World Anti-Doping Agency. 

Later, Biles herself disclosed information regarding her health issue. Through a tweet, she revealed that she is suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a mental disorder of the neurodevelopmental type, and the symptoms appear before the age of 12.

General symptoms of ADHD are difficulty in controlling behavior, problems in paying attention, excessive activity, and others. Biles said she was allowed to take medicine for ADHD when she applied and was granted Therapeutic Use Exemption.
