Simon Yam, who has appeared in around 125 movies and widely known for appearing in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, has been hospitalized after being stabbed in the stomach during an event in China. The incident took place on 20th July, Saturday.
The 64 years old actor was on the stage speaking at the promotional event in the city of Guangdon when one of the men from the crowd approached the stage and rushed towards him before stabbing him.
The incident video on the Chinese social media website showed the man taking something out from his pocket lunging towards Simon.
Simon’s manager, Lester Mo, said to the Associated Press that the actor was taken to the nearby hospital in Zhongshan. He then underwent minor surgery to treat the wound.
Simon released a statement saying:
He was stabbed in the tummy area and also got a cut on his right hand. A preliminary investigation showed his injuries were not critical, but the doctors are still deciding whether to operate on him.
The motive for the stabbing is still not clear.
Simon started his professional acting career in 1977 and has appeared in over 125 movies and 40 television series.
