Sheryl Underwood, is an American comedian, actress, and television host. She is notable in the comedy world for being the first female finalist in 1989's Miller Lite Comedy Search. She is also well-known for hosting BET Comic View. Since the autumn of 2011, she has also been one of the five hosts on the daytime chat show The Talk on CBS.

Sheryl Underwood was born on October 28, 1963, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the United States of America to Joyce Evelyn Underwood and Cleo Underwood. The American nationality holder is 58 years ol as of May 2022.

Underwood graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Governors State University with a Master's degree in Media Management and Mass Communication. She also once served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The actress is a patriotic Republican, even though she campaigned for Barack Obama's re-election in the United States presidential election in 2012.

Since joining in 1990, Underwood is also a lifetime member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority, serving as president of the organization's Omicron Rho Zeta chapter, as the National Chair of Honorary Members, National Executive Board Chair and International Grand Basileus as well as chartering a graduate chapter of Zeta Phi Beta in Inglewood, California. In addition to that, Underwood is also a member of the National Council of Negro Women and the NAACP. She is also the founder of the African-American Female Comedian Association.

Immediately after graduating college, Underwood served in the military, which was her first major profession. After she became the first female finalist in the Miller Lite Comedy Search in 1989, she rose to fame and immensely gained popularity in the comedy world. Following her stand-up success, she took several minor acting roles in movies like the role of Bad Mouth Bessie in I Got the Hook-Up, and Catfish Rita in Beauty Shop. From September 2002 to January 2003, Underwood became the host of BET's Comic View and executive producer and host of the limited-run comedy series Holla.

Underwood was a contributor on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show. She left the job in June 2010, as she had other plans instead. She joined The Steve Harvey Morning Show to be their contributor. She has also briefly hosted her own radio program, Sheryl Underwood, and Company. On Tuesday nights, Underwood hosts The Sheryl Underwood Show on Jamie Foxx's Sirius Satellite Radio channel, The Foxxhole. In 2011, she joined the second season of the daytime show The Talk.

Underwood has been awarded the BET "Funniest Female Comedian on Comic View" award in 1994. She is also the winner of the BET Comedy Awards' Platinum Mic Viewers Choice Award, 2005.
