In the year 2007, Sergio Escudero joined Real Murcia and played as a senior in Segunda Division B for the club. He signed with FC Schalke 04 in Germany in the summer of 2010.
On 26 February 2011, Escudero made his Bundesliga debut and played 68 minutes in a 1-1 home dram against 1.FC Nuremberg. Furthermore, he signed a five-year deal with the Madrid and scored two goals in his first full season, against FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC.
Escudero later signed an agreement with fellow league team Sevilla for four years on 3 July 2015. He scored his first goal for the club against Valencia CF, on 29 November 2015. He also played the full 90 minutes of the final of the UEFA Europe League against Liverpool in Basel.
He netted his first goal for the Andalusians on 29 November, the only in a league fixture against Valencia CF at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
He played second-fiddle to Benoît Trémoulinas in his first year but still managed to play in 27 games across all competitions, including the full 90 minutes of the final of the UEFA Europa League against Liverpool in Basel (3–1 win).
In November 2016, Escudero made his international debut after he received his first call-up from the senior Spain squad for matches against Macedonia and England.
