Portuguese-French actress, Sara Martins is best known for portraying the role of Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey in the popular comedy-drama, Death in Paradise. The popularity of the show helped Martins to gain international fame. She is entertaining the audiences since the early 2000's through her versatile acting and breakthrough performances. Sara Martins was born on August 19, 1977, in Faro, Portugal under the birth sign of Leo. She moved to France at the age of 3 with her family. She is of Cape Verdean descent. She became the first African descent person to join the Lyon Opera to study ballet. Later, she learned that she would be unable to advance to the Paris Opera because of her looks. Instead, Martins earned her Baccalauréat with a theater option.  

Martins received a DEUG in Law, then she joined École des Enfants Terribles in Paris. She studied acting at French National Academy of Dramatic Arts.

She can fluently speak Portuguese, French, and English.

Soon after completing her graduation, Sara Martins enrolled in theater acting. Her first play was  Le Radeau de la Méduse at the Théâtre National Populaire in Villeurbanne. Then she played the role of Young Vic in Le Costume(The Suit) and in a French production of David Mamet’s Race. 

In 2001, Martins debuted in TV in French police series, Political District. The following year, she made her film debut in Les Amateurs (Amateurs). Then she appeared in the number of TV series such as Maigret, Par amour, Disparition, Le Proc, P.J. (C.I.D.), Merci, Les enfants vont bien! and others.
