There will be no comeback for Auburn University’s senior gymnast Samantha Cerio who broke both of her legs during a floor routine at NCAA Regional Semifinals. After the horrible accident, Samantha announced that she is retiring from the sport.
On Sunday, Samantha took her Instagram and announced in a lengthy Instagram post that the Friday night had been her last night as a gymnast. She announced that she is hanging up her grips and living the chalk behind after eighteen years.
Samantha wore bedazzled white, navy, and orange leotard gymnast dress and looked excited at the purple floor exercise mat before her.
As her teammates cheered her, 22 years old gymnast smiled genuinely and kicked off her floor routine hoping for a flawless performance and help the Auburn Tigers secure a spot in NCAA women’s gymnastics regional final.
But, sadly, just within a snap of seconds, Samantha was on the floor suffering a painful death. This brought her two decades long gymnastics career to a shocking end which many people have called “worst sports-related injury” they have ever seen.
Samantha dislocated both of her knees and tore multiple ligaments in her knees on Friday, 5th April.
The Auburn’s women’s gymnastics coach Jeff Graba revealed that her no bones were shattered in the fall and was scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday afternoon.
Jeff added:
It was pretty tough to watch.
Jeff admitted that he had never seen anything like that. He also explained that he has never witnessed anything so dangerous in the middle of the NCAA’s Baton Rouge region semifinal.
