The marriage between Giuliani and Peruggi officially ended through both a divorce by the end of 1982 and a Catholic church annulment, by the close of 1983.

The annulment process was overseen by Alan Placa, a Giuliani man who later became a priest. This process unfolded as Giuliani realized that he and Peruggi were cousins. Despite being married for some time they did not have any children together.
