NBA star Brittney Griner, who plays for Phoenix Mercury, got engaged to her longtime girlfriend Cherelle Watson.
The 27-year-old Houston native announced the good news on Instagram on Thursday, 2nd August sharing a snap of her diamond ring. "I will never forget the first time I said I love you and I will never forget when you said YES!", she wrote alongside the photo.
TMZ reported the newly engaged couple as inseparable. The pair who met as students at the Baylor University has been dating for years. The outlet reported that Griner proposed her girlfriend saying
My best friend, my lover, my partner in life. I love you.
She added,
I'm so lucky to have you in my life forever. You never gave up on me even when I gave up on myself. You have pulled me from the ashes and held me up when I couldn't stand.
Her fiance also posted the photo saying "Yes! Yes! And YEEESS! Through highs and lows, you know some of the best and worst parts of me!"
The couple started dating in their University days, however, separated after a few months of dating. They rekindled their romance after Griner ended her 28-day-long marriage with fellow basketball star Glory Johnson in 2015.
As their divorce settlement, Griner was ordered to pay monthly child support for the two IVF twins that Johnson gave birth to after their separation.
