Melissa Bell started her career as an actress in the early 90s. She acted in projects such as Paradise Beach (1993), Water Rats (1996) and Home and Away (1988). She is primarily a soap opera actor who has contributed to the soap opera E Street in the guest role of Janine.

Bell left her role as Lucy in Neighbours to return to E Street to play as the new character, Bonnie Tait. After E Street ended, she made her frequent appearances to Neighbours. She was a frequent guest of the show since 1991 and she took a break from the show from 1995. After over a decade, she made her come back to the show, however, she again disappeared from the show before she returned to the show in 2013. Since then, she has been a frequent show cast.

Adding to this, she also played as Emily Harris in the soap opera Paradise Beach. Later, she made her appearances in many lifestyles programs such as Celebrity Overhaul.

She married her first husband Jason Redlich in 1996 but they divorced two years later in 1998. The couple gave birth to a son before their separation.

Two years after her divorce in 2000, she married Gary Dickinson, Together they were blessed with 3 children and lived in Goal Coast which is a beach town in Queensland. They were living happily before the fate struck the couple in November 2015 when her husband Dickinson suffered a heart attack that left him in a coma. He was 57 years old at that time and two months later on 13 February 2016. Since then she has been living a single life with her children.
