English retail consultant and broadcaster Mary Portas has revealed that she and her wife Melanie Rickey have called it a quit. The couple, who has been together since 2002, have split up.
Mary and Melanie, who share a six years old son together, converted their long-partnership to a marriage in 2004. They were the first couple to do so when same-sex marriage was made legal in the UK.
The Sun reported that the couple was in an on and off relationship in the past year. As per reports, the pair has already sold their £5million home located in North West London. They have even planned to move into separated houses nearby.
The couple has even released a statement announcing that they have decided to separate after being together for seventeen years. They also announced that there is no one involved.
They added:
We have spent the last year consciously managing our separation in as good-heartedly, open, and mature a way as possible to ensure a smooth, amicable evolution for us.
The couple also claimed that they will remain a friend and will be committed co-parents to three beautiful humans (plus Walter the dog!). They admitted to be good friends and will share much together going forward.
Back in 2013, Melanie gave birth to their son, Horatio via IVF. It was Mary’s brother who donated sperm.
