Legendary Marvel comic artist, who is famous for her work on Spider-Woman and Hulk, Marie Severin has died. Long-time Marvel comic book artist Severin pa s sed away on Thursday, 30th August at the age of 89.
Former Marvel staffer and longtime friend of Severin, Irene Vartanoff announced her death where he revealed she died of a stroke.
Severin was a prolific artist and colorist for Marvel and DC Comics and had an impressive career that lasted for decades. However, only a few comic book historians know about her work and dedication in comics.
Severin kicked off her career as a colorist at EC Comics in 1949 and later became the head colorist. She worked on several successful characters including the Hulk, Daredevil, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Sub-Mariner during the Golden and Silver age of comics.
Severin's most notable work came in 1976 when she co-created the superhero Spider-Woman and designed her original costume with Stan Lee.
Many fans and colleagues tributed the late comic artist on Twitter following her death announcement. Marvel Entertainment conducted their heartfelt condolence to Severin on Twitter and her colleagues including Stan Lee, Tom King also took to their Twitter expressing their sorrow on her death.
