Born as Kevin Wu in Houston, Texas, KevJumba is one of the first YouTube stars. He joined YouTube back in 2006, soon after, he became one of the popular YouTubers with millions of fan following. But life isn't always beautiful and he went through unfavorable situations which put him down so he completely disappeared from YouTube leaving his Internet fame. On top of that, Kev was hit by a car in 2015 which caused a great physical damage followed by mental illness. But he didn't give up and is back despite the difficulties.     

Early Life And Education Of Kev Jumba

Kevin Wu better known by his nickname KevJumba was born on 12 June 1990 in Houston, Texas. His father is Michael Wu, a Taiwanese immigrant. Kevin is very close to his father. He has a younger sibling named Kelly Wu.  

Wu attended Clement High School, Sugar Land, Texas and graduated in 2008. He studied major in film at the University of California, Davis but he dropped out.

KevJumba's Career

Kevin Wu joined YouTube back in July 2006 under the name Kev. He is one of the first few YouTubers to receive wide recognition and viewers. 

In the beginning, KevJumba used to upload humorous videos on his channel which attracted the attention of people through his unique and creative styles. In 2007, he uploaded a video titled I Have to Deal With Stereotypes which was featured on YouTube's homepage. In the video, KevJumba talks about stereotypes he has to deal with being an Asian-Ameican.  

 Following the success, KevJumba regularly uploaded funny and interesting videos. His videos frequently featured his father Michael Wu and later on, he made a video I Love My Dad. Viewers absolutely loved PapaJumba thus, he appeared on several videos of KevJumba. 

The YouTube star eventually became one of the three East-Asian under the age of 21 to be YouTube's all-time most subscribed user by the May 2008. Amid his flourishing YouTube career, the star suddenly disappeared from YouTube without any announcement in late 2013. He went on making most of his videos private on the channel.

Fans had no idea what has happened to the star, but later KevJumba explained for several reasons he went invisible. KevJumba was wanting to pursue his acting career on his own pace and ability. In between that in 2015, he met a fatal car accident, which is one of the reasons for his disappearance. 

Thankfully, he made a comeback on his YouTube channel in 2017. Though he is not so active as before, he posted a few videos and made the private videos public which is definitely a relief for his fans. As of August 2018, his channel has over 2.8 million subscribers with more than 322.2 million views. 

In July 2008, KevJumba created another YouTube channel JumbaFund to help different charitable organizations. From the profit of the channel, donated approx $5,000 in Kenya to built a school. In 2011, he built another school  Jumba Lenana Academy, Lenana, Kenya. Currently, the channel has over 1 million subscribers with more than 62.9 million views.

In between his prosperous YouTube career, KevJumba appeared on some television series. In 2007, he briefly starred on an American reality television series Online Nation. Then after he worked on BlogTV and produced 70 live and 23 recorded shows. In 2008, KevJumba was cast on a web series  Hooking Up alongside Jessica Rose and Philip DeFrancoHe then worked on multiple other shows including Flicks, Rock Jocks, and Revenge of the Green Dragons.

In 2010, he made a web series Funemployed along with Philip Wang, a filmmaker. The series cast other popular YouTubers like Nigahiga, David Choi, Chester See, and Kina Grannis. The series is about the friendship between Kyle (KevJumba) and Jason (Philip Wang) which became a hit with incredible views in a short period of time. 

The same year, Kevin and his dad participated on an American reality television game show The Amazing Race. His father's original name Michael Wu was revealed through the show. The father and son duo eliminated in Leg 7. 

The YouTuber released his first full-length feature film Hang Loose in 2012. He starred on the film alongside an actor Dante Basco, Justin Chon and others. He is trying to pursue his acting career but is in no hurry. So, in near future, we might see the star in films and series.

In 2015, he was hit by a car and severely injured. The accident did a great damage to his physical health impacting his spines and lungs and also in his mental health. It took months for him to recover from the damage. He was in the hospital for 45 days and had to go through two major operations. 

However, the good thing is that he made it, he is back. Thanks to his family, his father who had his back and took the best care of him. He is all healthy now and probably will be back as ever.
