Im Jin-ah popularly known as Nana was born to Shin Gil-soon on 14th September 1991 in Cheongju, North Chungcheong under the birth sign Virgo. Jin-ah is Korean as per nationality and as far as her ethnicity is concerned, she is of Asian ancestry.

Im Jin-ah made her debut in music career in November 2009. She joined a South Korean girl group, After School formed by Pledis Entertainment along with Raina as the third generation members with the release of group's second EP, Because of You. The following year, she along with Raina and Lizzy formed a sub-unit Orange Caramel.
While working with the Orange Caramel, Nana released her first solo song, Close Your Eyes in 2011. The same year, she became the part of the After School sub-unit, A.S Red along with Uee, Jung-ah, and K-ahi.

Jin-ah was selected as the main model for the Tokyo Girls Collection fashion show in September 2011 from where her modeling career began. The following year, she walked on the S/S 2012 show where she modeled for Tokyo Girls Collection. Jin-ah made her acting debut in 2006 as herself in the Korean TV show, High Kick! starring Lee Soon-jae, Na Moon-hee, and Jeong Jun-ha. After several years, she made her movie debut in 2011's White: The Melody of the Curse.
Jin-ah then performed in several movies and TV series as a supporting actress which include LOve Weaves Through a Millennium, The Good Wife, Go Lala Go 2, and The Swindlers.
