Born on 1st February 1987, Giuseppe Rossi is an American-born Italian footballer who is currently in the position of forward in the club Fiorentina and also in the Italian national team. He was born in Teaneck, New Jersey and he began football with the Clifton Stallions in New Jersey. He was born to Italian immigrant parents in Teaneck, New Jersey. His father Fernando Rossi was a soccer coach and Italian and Spanish language teacher at Clifton High School. His mother Cleonlide Rossi also worked as a language teacher at Clifton. Rossi moved to Parma, Italy aged 12 along with his father to start his career at Parma. Rossi was invited to a pre- World Cup training camp in 2006 with the USA's National team which he refused showinf a desire to play for his nation Italy.
Career
Rossi started his club career in Parma at the age of 12 and stayed until 17 when Manchester United approached signed him. He made his debut for the club on November 20, 2004 in the fifth round of League Cup. He made his premier League debut on October 15, 2005 as a 78th minute substitute for Ruud van Nisterlooy and he scored his first Premier League goal nine minutes later in the game against Sunderland in a 3-1win at the stadium of light. He was moved to Newcastle United at the start of the 2005-07 season on loan until Jaunary 1, 2007. His only goal for Newcastle was scored on October 25,2006in a Legue cup third round tie against Portsmouth at St. James’ Park. He was agained loaned in the second half of his season and this time to Parma, his previous club. While in the club he scored total of nine goals in 19 league appearances he made,his scores helped the club avoid chances of relegation. Manchester United announced on July 31, 2007 that Rossi was sold to Villarreal. The fee was kept undisclosed but was speculated to be around 10 million Euros. On his very first match for Villarreal against Valencia, he scored his very first goal for his team on August 26, 2007. In his second season with Villarreal he netted 12 goals in 30 league appearances he made. His contract was extended till 2016 in January 2011. his best season in the club was 2010-11 season. He scored 32 goals in 56 appearances. He picked a ligament injury on October 26, 2011 in a 3-0 lost match agains Real Madrid. The injury kept him out of field for 6 months and when he reinjured himself again during a training on April 13, 2012, he had to keep out for another 10 months.
Rossi was transferred to Fiorentina on 4 January 2013 and the transfer fee was 10 million Euros. The contract is for four years and the release clause is 35 million Euros. His debut match was against Pescara. The match was a 5-1 win. He scored his first goal for Fiorentina in a 2013-14 Serie A season match against Catania, where Catania lost 1-2. Rossi has represented Italy in Youth level from U-16 to U-21. He was named in the 30-man Italian squad for 2014 FIFA World Cup on 13 May , 2014.
