David Eric Johnson is an American vocalist, guitarist, and composer who is considered "one of the most respected guitarists on the planet." He is best recognized for his electric guitar skills and albums such as 'Seven Worlds', 'Ah Via Musicom' which was labeled with Capitol and certified Platinum. Eric Johnson aka David Eric Johnson was born on 17 August in the year 1954, in Austin, Texas of United States of America. He is a Leo which defines his personality to be warm and driven by the desire to be loved.
As born to a musically inclined family, he grabbed music sense at the early age of 11. He used to go to piano cla s ses with his siblings and also started playing the Guitar.
After pa s sing out from Chatsworth Charter High School, he attended the University of Texas and traveled to Africa along with his family.

Eric Johnson joined his first professional rock band, Mariani with Vince Mariani, Jay Aaron Podolnick, at the age of 15. In 1968, Johnson and his group recorded a demo which was awarded Collector's Item a year later after limited release. After some time he along with his family went to Africa.
After returning back to Austin from Africa in 1974, he joined a local fusion band, The Electromagnets.
But without people's attention, the band did not get the success it deserved. The band broke up later on. Johnson did lose his hope and formed his own trio band with drummer Bill Maddox and ba s sist Kyle Brock.
Johnson recorded his debut album, Seven Worlds, from 1976–1978 in Austin. But due to contract disputes, it was not released until 1998.
Eric raised to fame after signing to Warner Bros. Records in 1984. In May 1986, 'Cliffs of Dover' from the concert at Austin City Limits on 1984, 31 July was issued in the Guitar Player magazine with his cover story.
This helped him in publicizing his Album 'Tones' in 1986 on 12th of March which created a huge sensation. In 1987, this album's track "Zap" was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. The album did not sell well, and Warner Bros. broke the contract.
He, later on, signed the contract with indie label Cinema Records by Capitol Records and released his 1990 Capitol Records debut album, Ah Via Musicom. The album's second track, "Cliffs of Dover", exemplified his unique sound and owned him a 1991 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Venus Isle released on September 3, 1996, was an album that showed Johnson's growth as a guitarist, songwriter, producer, musical arranger, and vocalist. But the album did not match to the expectation of the people. He succeeded tour from October to November 1996 with fellow guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. "G3" tour resulted in a successful platinum-selling video G3: Live in Concert.
In 1994, Johnson worked on a side project, Alien Love Child and played shows while recording Venus Isle.
In 1998, Johnson was among the judges in Musician magazine's "Best Unsigned Bands" competition, along with Ani DiFranco, Moby, Art Alexakis of Everclear, Keb' Mo', and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
He subsequently released ten solo albums between 1978 and 2013. In March 2014, Johnson performed in the eighth edition of the Experience Hendrix Tour, highlighting the music of Jimi Hendrix.
