American TV journalist Cheryl Burton is a news anchor for ABC-affiliated TV, WLS-TV.  She has been working in Chicago, Illinois for the last 25 years.  She anchors the 5 p.m. news show alongside fellow journalist Alan Krashesky. Burton is also a contributor to the 10 p.m. news program. 

Burton began her broadcasting career in 1989 at WGN-TV in Chicago. She then moved to Peoria, Illinois, and worked at WMBD-TV from 1990 to 92. She was married to fellow journalist Jim Rose from 1986 to 1995. Regarding Cheryl Burton's age, she is in her early 60s.

Cheryl Burton was born on December 25, 1962, at Provident Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. She was born to a house decorator Lillian and an advocate consultant Neil Peter Burton. Before her birth, her mother had married Neil and thus we don’t know who is her biological father.

Cheryl was brought up with her two sisters and a brother, William. Born into a religious family, she is a Christian and an American citizen.

As a child, Cheryl attended the local Lindblom Technical High School in Illinois and graduated from there in 1981. Not a very talented student in class, she was a good athlete who took part in games like the high jump and running from her school’s team.

After graduating, Cheryl was enrolled at the University of Illinois where she studied Biology and graduated with Psychology as her minor. Her name was enlisted in the school's Hall of Fame in 2007. After she completed her education, she worked in a quite different field from what she had studied.

The former couple Burton and Rose began dating in the early 1980s. Their romantic affair turned into an engagement when he proposed to her on the anniversary of their first date with a diamond ring under the night sky.

Burton married her boyfriend Jim Rose a fellow reporter for the ABC channel in 1986. They lived together for nearly nine years and divorced in 1995.

The ex-couple Burton and Jim didn’t have any children together. The TV personality doesn't have any kids to date. However, she is close to her family members and shares a good bond with her friends.

The 5 feet 8 inches tall media personality Burton is an active user of the news media site Twitter. She regularly shares her ups and downs via Twitter. In 2018, her mother passed away and she posted several Tweets for her tribute.  She is also a good friend of hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper. 

Though most guess that this romantic affair would go far, it sadly did not.  Although Burton is rumored to have been married again, there is no news of confirmation about it.

Won Procter & Gamble Award 

Burton was the first recipient of the 2005 Sisters the Spirit Award. She has also received the 2009 Procter & Gamble Award for her outstanding community service. She won the NABJ (National Association of Black Journalists) Salute to Excellence International in 2008.

Burton was honored with the Thurgood Marshall Award in the years 2004 and 2005. Also in 2004, the Chicago Association of Black Journalists (CABJ) honored Burton with the Russ Ewing Award for her coverage of the E2 nightclub tragedy. 

Cheryl's Starting Career

Burton started working as a broadcaster and soon began appearing on TV. Working in that job for some time, she started to enjoy life as a presenter and thus changed her work into journalism.

Cheryl began her broadcasting career in 1989 with WGN-TV in Chicago where she was the host of a show named "MBR: The Minority Business Report".

Joined ABC-affiliated WLS-TV

Prior to that, Cheryl appeared in a TV series named Simply Elegant.  A year later, she moved to work with WMBD-TV, which was located in Peoria. From there, she moved to Kansas and worked for a couple of years for KWCH-TV till 1992. 

In 1992, Burton began joining the ABC-affiliated WLS-TV in Chicago, Illinois. Since then, she has been working for the network. She co-anchors the 5 p.m. news with Ala Krashesky. She is also a contributor to the 10 p.m. news show. She is one of the popular anchors on television.
