Jones became a household name for his role as Sandy Thomas in the British television series in which he worked from 2005 until 2018.

Actress Lesley Duff announced the British veteran died on Tuesday, 9th July. She said:
It is with great sadness that I can confirm the death of Freddie Jones. He pa s sed away on the evening of July 9 after a short illness.
She further said,
Freddie was a much loved and admired actor, known for his triumphs in cla s sical theater, film, and television. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and most especially his family.
In February 2018, Jones decided to retire from acting when he was still playing in Emmerdale and his character written out of the show by 'moving to Australia.
Jones was married to his longtime wife Jennifer Haslewood with whom he has three children including actor Toby Jones.
